S.S.Lazio

Rome is the home to the famous sports club S.S.Lazioor Lazio Track and Field Club or Societa Podistica Lazio which is the largest European sports association with 37 disciplines which range from basketball to cricket to paragliding and have the most popular men’s football team in the whole world. S.S.Lazio was established on the 9th of January in 1900 in the Prati district. It was named Lazio after the area in which it was situated. The Greek flag, especially the country of Greece giving birth to the Olympics inspired the white and sky blue colors of S.S.Lazio. The eagle which is the traditional symbol of S.S.Lazio, relates to the insignia of the Roman Empire.

S.S.Lazio was first introduced to football in 1901 by one of the members of Racing Club de Paris with the immediate formation of a football team, the matches being played first in 1902 and the first match on 16th May being a 3-0 triumph against Societa Sportiva Virtus. After joining the league competition in the year1912, S.S.Lazioreached the final of the national championing for three times, but was never successful in winning. S.S.Lazio was the only prime club in Rome which was against the merging of all the Roman teams into .S Roma. The highest pre-war score made by S.S.Lazio was in 1929 in the first arranged Series A which was headed by Silvio Piola, the famous Italian striker.

After establishing its fame over so many decades of ups and downs, S.S.Lazio started the new millennium of 2000 by getting victory in the Italian Super Cup by finishing in the third position in the league. But after Sven Goran Eriksson left the club, S.S.Lazio started declining fast. With the loosing or wastage of funds, in 2001-2002 sessions S.S.Lazio failed to get the very important reservation for the UEFA Champions League by finishing 6th. In 2002 Cragnotti also had to leave S.S.Lazio for his monetary scandal and his food products. This led to the caretaking of S.S.Lazio by a bank pool and the financial managers. For this, S.S.Lazio had to sell the club-club Nesta’s symbol and their top players quite fast. It was then taken over by Claudio Lolito, the present prime share owner. In the years of 2005 and 2006 it also lost experts like Paolo Negro and Ferdando Couto. In 2005-2006 sessions under the guidance of Delio Rossi, the team comprised of experts like Angelo Peruzzi and Fabio Liverani qualified for the 2006-2007 UEFA Cup. The club was penalized for their probable involvement in a match-fixing scandal and due to deduction in points they failed to get qualified for the next UEFA Cup. But in spite of loosing points S.S.Lazio finished at the third place with 8 wins at a stretch in 2006-2007 UEFA Cup.
