Trastevere means “over the Tiber”. This place is segregated from the heart of central Rome by the river Tiber. This place managed to retain the narrow under developed lanes and their working-class population while the rest of Rome expanded in the nineteenth-century.

The church of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere is among the mostly visited churches in Rome. By the altar there is the statue of the patron saint of music, martyred St. Cecilia. This statue remained undismayed in her coffin in the sixteenth-century. Isola Tiberina or the Tiber Island is a short walk away from the place.
